Tanaka Earns Win in Tides Debut¡Ê¥¿¥¤¥º¸ø¼°¡Ë
Ryohei Tanaka was solid in his Norfolk Tides debut Wednesday night at Harbor Park, leading his team past the Gwinnett Braves 2-1 in front of 4,341 fans.
Tanaka (1-0, 1.50) allowed just three runners to reach scoring position during his 6.0 innings on the mound with his lone blemish coming on a sacrifice fly from Mauro Gomez in the 3rd inning. Tanaka completely shut down the Braves from there, issuing just one walk the rest of the way while holding Gwinnett hitless.
Rhyne Hughes gave Tanaka all the run support he would need with a towering, two-run homer in the 1st inning. Steven Shell (2-5, 4.45) took the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in 4.0 innings.
Mark Worrell pitched a perfect 9th inning to earn his 21st save of the season.
The two teams will close out their 2011 season series Thursday with a 7:15 game. LH Chris George (6-5, 4.27) will go for the Tides opposite International League Pitcher of the Year, Julio Teheran (15-2, 2.22).
